Recertification Policy Statement
General Statement
Authority for establishing recertification policy rests with senior law enforcement management in the public and private sector, not with the Council. Maintaining certification, at any level, is viewed by the Council as a procedure rather than a policy.
User Level
Procedures for maintaining certification at the User level are available and fully supported by the Council. They include: (1) obtaining an acceptable rating on techniques listed on a proficiency test sheet and (2) passing a written test with the appropriate minimum number of questions. A brief review of appropriate information and techniques may precede the above recertification procedures.
Instructor Level
Procedures for maintaining certification at the Instructor level are available and fully supported by the Council. They include: (1) obtaining an acceptable rating on techniques listed on a proficiency test sheet, (2) passing a written test with the appropriate minimum number of questions and (3) passing an Instructor presentation assessment. A brief review of appropriate information and techniques may precede the above recertification procedures.
An Instructor has the following two options for maintaining his or her certification.
- Option #1
An Instructor who is certified by the Council may be tested by an Instructor-Trainer or International Instructor.
A brief review of appropriate information and techniques may precede this activity. Instructors must always satisfy the minimum competency standards for certification as an Instructor.
- Option #2
An Instructor may submit his or her teaching activity report to the Council, which accounts for teaching activity he or she has done. This filing of teaching activity may happen any time. Upon careful examination, the Council may issue an Instructor certificate.
The role of the Council is to provide the procedures and options that allow an Instructor to maintain his or her certification. It is the responsibility of the Instructor to maintain his or her certification.
